Fishing Conditions
It’s the middle of summer on the Animas, so that means watch the water temps. Should we get some monsoonal rains, temps should stay cool, but should they get above 66 in the afternoon, it’s time to call it quits. The best fishing has been in the mornings until about noon, and right before dark, with hatches of PMDs in the mornings and caddis in the evenings. A great rig during these hatches has been a mayfly or caddis dry, followed by a mayfly or caddis emerger on a foot dropper, just below the surface. If no fish are rising, you may have to throw the nymph rig.
